Ported the whole wordpress.com blog with all posts intact to 11ty, figured out how to do cover images, installed disqus comments, got an excerpt method working, built a sidebar for desktop view where you can see just the posts by series, and made the layout degrade pretty gracefully for small screens, down to a resolution of 320x480 that I nicknamed "shite phone". It's not a workflow that would work for everyone bc it requires a bit of technical knowledge to update, but it's one that works for us and both I and the encoder can update it with minimal fuss.

If you're browsing the web on an even smaller screen I can't guarantee the experience, but probably a lot of sites look like shit that small.

A lot of the new features in html/css since the last time I learned are really good, viewport and @media are the tits. Knocked the rust off those skills and learned a bit of javascript. Also I'm blowing kisses to everyone who answered questions when I was having trouble, especially gekidasa demonstrating a good design for a navbar after the w3schools example told me to use float which hilariously broke everything leading me to struggle for almost 2 days with that.

The Amazing Zubat was truly amazing. I don't know how I continue on my life without anymore of the insane adventures of Hayakawa Ken but I'm glad he avenged his boyfriend and I hope he finds another sexy cowboy to shack up with who doesn't have a secret wife.

Ohsama Sentai Kingohger!

Over all I had a lot of fun.

The extensive use of CG environments in the greenscreen room drags it down a bit bc they look bad, Donbrothers mech fight scenes shot there worked way better because they had a physical set on the ground which anchored the scene properly and the overall aesthetic was significantly less realistic to start. Often the ground would be sliding around under the actors in Kingoh or the angles would make no sense.

I would've liked if the worldbuilding was a little more self-consistent. Even in such a campy cartoonish setting, yeah. Won't bother some people but I'm just like this.

Kousei Amano and Akiko Hinagata were surprise standouts and I hope Iroki is stopping by Grodie's little patch of the afterlife getting screamed at by ghosts forever to laugh at his suffering and maybe stab him with her hair pins a little.

Nephila is hot as fuck and Jeramie's nameless dad was so right to defect for her. I too would throw everything away for the 7 foot tall goth lady with a whole spider for a head who is kicking ass left and right.

I really love the way every character is insane in their own way and they all bounce off each other and all the twists and turns, I would love to see Takano write another season without the monarchy and gulag country shit.

Finished toku series #116 is Cutie Honey: The Live

Thoughts: I love this, it's a really interesting take on Cutie Honey and Mikie Hara did an AMAZING job especially with the all the action scenes in her first acting gig. I was not expecting it to really go for my heart like that but Inoue is a good writer and he loves to make you sad.

Finished toku series #117 is Dogenger Metropolis

Thoughts: Dogengers makes me so happy, especially seeing my girl Mako so much!!! Yuz-yuz and Shiraishi are both really fun characters and I love how they become foils. Everytime Shiraishi squeaks in fear like some kind of anxious rodent I want to hold him in my cupped hands like a dwarf hamster. Takashi Hagino was fantastic as Inspector Akuta and every ossan appreciator should give this a look for him.

When Parad is confined to the CR offices after the end of Ex-Aid, he has a lot of trouble dealing with boredom and frustration that wears on both him and Emu. After a minor disaster they make up.

Notes:

For aquabluejay.

This is a scene that's going to be in something larger, but aquabluejay was talking about Emu petting Parad and it was soft and nice so I wrote this scene and liked it enough to post on it's own. Same timeline as "Emu is a Meme', this takes place in the months while Parad was confined to the CR offices and not dealing with it very well.

The disaster he caused? That's a story for another time...

The ponytail on top of her head bobbed in its scrunchie as she shuffled to the fridge with her eyes closed, retrieving a bottle of juice entirely by memory.

“Good morning.” Sawa said. Misora made a vague noise of acknowledgment and sat down across from Sawa, struggling to open the juice bottle.

“I’m going shopping, do you want anything from the store?” Sawa asked. Misora wiped the damp bottle cap on her sleeve, managing to open it this time before taking a big glug.

Houjou Emu didn’t usually have trouble getting into his apartment, which is why he was surprised when the front door rebounded into his face after opening only a few inches. He tried it again more carefully, applying a little more force against the resistance behind the door, and made enough room to squeeze his way through. The obstruction turned out to be an immense heap of cardboard boxes blocking the entry way, a lot of them looked like they once contained computer parts.

When he looked to his right into the “living” area of the LDK where his little futon-sofa and TV lived, there was a brand new computer sitting on the floor by the coffee table. And cables everywhere. And his TV had been moved against the far wall. And there was another, older, bulkier CRT TV in the middle of the room taking up very nearly all the space available. The new old television had a lot of cables running between it and the new PC, it and a few old game consoles, it and some boxes of not immediately obvious function, and cables running to the pair sitting on the sofa laser focused on the game they were playing. Neither looked away from the screen when Emu closed the front door loudly.

“Yo, Emu!” The young woman with her long hair tied back out of her face said. “We meant to clean that up before you got home but we’re still doing the test run.” Saiba Nico, pro-gamer alias ‘Genius Gamer N’, she’d previously sworn eternal vengeance against Emu but now hung out at his place occasionally to play games with the man seated next to her.
